The college is maintaining a green campus with a great diversity of plants. It has a total of over 3,000 plants, including 191 trees, around 1,000 shrubs, 800 foliage plants, 1,000 winter ornamental plants, 200 summer ornamental plants, 15 hanging baskets, 100 cacti, and a large number of weeds. An inventory of these plants is maintained by the Garden and Greening Committee of the college.

No tree is cut unless it is dead. Moreover, every year, the college plants new trees to promote beautification and the aesthetic appeal of the campus. Trees are numbered and named after proper identification. We have two vermicompost units and four leafy compost units on campus, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable waste practices.

In recognition of notable individuals and historical figures, three gardens of the college are named. The Rock Garden is dedicated to Dashrath Manjhi, acknowledging his remarkable efforts to improve accessibility to hospitals. The Botanical Garden is named after Dr. Janaki Ammal, honoring the first female botanist of India.

One of the two rose gardens maintained by the college is named ‘Veerangana Durgavati Udyan,’ paying tribute to the fearless warrior queen of the Gondwana kingdom.

On 5th September 2023, to celebrate Teachers’ Day and India’s G-20 presidency, a garden was created highlighting waste-to-art projects undertaken by our teachers and students. It is named in memory of Master Ramchandra, a renowned mathematician, science teacher, writer, and translator who taught at ZHDC and contributed significantly to its academic growth.

The college undertakes various initiatives like tree plantation drives and the “Clean Campus – Green Campus” campaign to foster a sense of environmental responsibility among students. Bird feeders and bird nests have also been placed in strategic locations to attract birds. Our gardeners regularly attend workshops to enhance their expertise in gardening.

The college successfully organized its very first flower show on 5th March 2023. The event showcased the spectacular beauty and diversity of flowers, foliage, bonsai, and ornamental plants grown on our campus.

Every year, our college actively participates in the Annual Flower Show organized by the University of Delhi and is awarded various prizes in different categories, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in gardening and landscaping.

We look forward to continuing our efforts in the coming years to make our college a greener and more beautiful place for all.
